Anatomy Trains

A new way of looking at the human body

Introduction

Over the last 15 years, the Anatomy Trains model has been a major contributor to the growing interest in fascia, the body’s ubiquitous connecting tissue.

Learn how the body uses fascia to minimise its energy output, break the myths of concentric / eccentric / isometric muscle contraction. Come away with a solid appreciation of the wonders of the body grounded in the latest research and biomechanics – not levers and vectors but readily usable whole-body strategies that will enable you to see the true source of problems.

Combine movement and manual techniques for the most efficient and long-lasting results, based on the latest research on the interaction between skeleton, muscles, joints, and fascial proprioceptors. This series of workshops will take you to a new level in therapy. You will understand how inefficient mechanics in one spot can lead to overuse problems somewhere quite distant from the original misuse – and then use both movement and manual techniques to make quick, effective and lasting improvements.

Get a clearer picture; get a better appreciation of the beauty of human movement; receive a reliable and research-based approach and start making changes for your clients.

In what order do I follow the Anatomy Trains courses?

The courses of Anatomy Trains in Structure & Function

Anatomy Trains in Structure & Function

In a 3-day course, learn about the myofascial tissue and its role in the body, see it in context and how it is interdependent with the other body systems.

Info and Dates

Course concept description: Anatomy Trains in Structure & Function

In this exciting new and more comprehensive format you will learn about the myofascial tissue and its many roles in the body. Participants will see the fascial tissues in context and how they are interdependent with the other body systems. From there we begin to see how the body incorporates the Anatomy Train Lines to create easy and graceful movement – provided they are in some form of balance and harmony; restriction or weakness in one can have many knock effects.

What is it?

This is the first workshop to combine Anatomy Trains theory alongside structural and functional anatomy and analysis, blending together the concepts of tensegrity with elastic recoil for movement efficiency. We will address differential diagnosis to help identify for motor control or soft tissue restrictions and where they may be coming from.

Content

This is an exciting and fun workshop delivered with clarity and with your practice in mind – you will have useful and usable skills by the end of the four days. Research will be referenced showing the roles of fascia in the body, making this an up to date and highly effective skill-building workshop.

Outcome

Learn to see and correct the myofascial patterns of the body. By gradually building BodyReading skills you will learn to interpret movement and postural patterns. We all want to have a 3-dimensional vision of the body and this workshop is the first step towards establishing those skills for your self.

Anatomy Trains is the perfect introduction to myofascial anatomy for any manual therapist. It is also the first essential step along the path to training in Structural Integration with the Anatomy Trains protocol.

The courses of Structural Essentials

Arches and Legs

Underpinning all of our structure is the foot’s interaction with the ground, imbalances here clearly have consequences further up the body.

Info and Dates

Fans of the Hip

The hip and pelvis combine to transfer the forces from two legs and into the one spine and therefore has a hugely complex role to fulfil in the body.

Info and Dates

Abdomen, Breath, and Chest

This course focuses on ribcage and its relationship with the pelvis to provide a secure anchoring point for the neck and shoulders and thoracic spine mechanics.

Info and Dates

Tensegrity Spine

This course examines the spine as a tensegrity truss – how the bones float within the myofascial balance.

Info and Dates

Shoulders and Arms

Requiring a complex equation of stabilityversus mobility to balance correctly on the rib cage, the shoulders can easily be used to compensate for thoracic and cervical deviations or be the cause for them.

Info and Dates

Head, Neck, and Jaw

The neck is a remarkable feat of biomechanical engineering, giving a combination of wide range of movement but maintaining a structural strength.

Designed with the busy therapist in mind, these workshops can be taken in any order. The unique circular skill-building which is inherent in the system means that you do not have to fit your diary around ours.

Each workshop can stand on its own to give you new understanding of each area and how the structural and functional anatomy relates to many common issues. A range of back-up notes will be given with each along with learning assignments both prior and post-workshop. Where possible the information is backed up with current research and critical thinking is encouraged throughout. This unique package is aimed to build confidence and give you fresh insights into the workings of the body’s myofascial system.

Finally, when you have attended each on the series, you can learn how to put all of the skills together to create a comprehensive and effective system. Based on many new and established approaches we believe the Structural Essentials will give you the skills in palpation, BodyReading and functional analysis needed for the modern multidisciplinary therapist.

The courses of Anatomy Trains Structural Essentials Dissection Series with Anatomy Inside

Fans of the Hip Dissection

In the Fans of the Hip dissection course we will cover the anatomy around the pelvis and up to the 12th rib. As we go from superficial to deep we will explore how the lines intersect and connect, we will identify the bony landmarks, the myofascial structures and connective tissue.

Info and Dates

Arches and Legs Dissection

In the Arches and Legs dissection course we will start unravelling the world of anatomy and look at what is under the surface. We will have a look at the structures making up the Anatomy Trains Lines as they meet and merge in the lower extremities.

Info and Dates

Abdomen, Breath, and Chest Dissection

In the third dissection course our focus will be on the region between the pelvis and the neck.

Info and Dates

Tensegrity Spine Dissection

The Spine, this resilient, strong and robust structure is the focus of the 4th course of our dissection series. We will take you from superficial to deep, from skin to fascia, from superficial to deeper myogenic structures, and finally the spine it self.

Info and Dates

Shoulders and Arms Dissection

In this dissection course we will explore the myofascial tracks unique to Tom Myers Anatomy Trains, the arm lines. We will explore the arm lines from where they originate at the shoulder, this is also how they are named.

Info and Dates

Course concept description: Anatomy Trains Structural Essentials Dissection Series with Anatomy Inside

Anatomy Inside is a group of anatomists who are passionate about the importance of dissection in anatomical teaching and to deliver a once in a lifetime learning opportunity. Anatomy Inside collaborates with the Department of Medical Biology, Section Clinical Anatomy & Embryology of the University of Amsterdam.

Anatomy Inside understands that for centuries dissection has been the gold standard for learning and teaching human anatomy; therefore we teach human anatomy by letting you dissect, guided by trained anatomists and supplemented with small group teaching; all delivered in state of the art prosectorium facilities.

Unfortunately during the past decades the use of human dissection has gradually declined in both medical and paramedical (physiotherapy, nursing etc) training. We believe that clinically relevant and profound knowledge of human anatomy is indispensable for medics and paramedics. It is well known that dissection and cadaveric anatomy training is the best way of learning and understanding anatomy.

Incitus, Anatomy Trains and Anatomy Inside are now joining forces for the first time to bring you a series of Dissection courses specifically designed to to support you in understanding anatomy and Anatomy Trains.

During 6 one day courses we will explore the bony stations and myofascial tracks which together form the "Anatomy Trains". Each 1 day course will zoom in on a specific area and we will explore the anatomy of that area through dissection. The groups will be kept small for maximal learning experience.
