Physio Bikefit Level 2
Advanced Clinical Bikefit & Cyclist Rehabilitation
Take your Bikefit skills to the next level with this hands-on, evidence-based course designed for clinicians who want to confidently assess, diagnose, and manage complex cycling-related injuries.
Following on from Physio Bikefit Level 1, this two-day in-person course builds on your foundational knowledge of the cycling body and bike set-up. Level 2 introduces advanced clinical reasoning strategies, detailed kinetic chain assessments, and deeper analysis of contact point dynamics — saddle, shoe/pedal, and handlebar interface — all essential for injury prevention and performance optimization.
With a strong emphasis on practical application, participants will develop mastery in problem solving across different bike types (road, triathlon, mountain bike) and rider presentations, supported by a robust scientific framework.
What You’ll Learn
- Master Load & Mechanics: Learn how pedaling technique, load transfer, and the cycling kinetic chain influence injury risk and performance (based on work from Gregor, Bini, and Van Ingen Schenau).
- Contact Point Optimization:
- Saddle Fit: Understand how to match saddle shape, width, and position to body type, riding style, and symptomatology.
- Foot-Shoe-Pedal Interface (FSPI): Delve into biomechanics, cleat alignment, wedge/shim selection, crank length, and how these affect joint loads and muscle activation.
- Handlebars: Learn adjustments for improved comfort, control, and aerodynamic alignment.
- Bike-Specific Fit Strategies: Adapt your assessments for road, TT/aero, gravel, and MTB setups with an emphasis on real-world ride demands.
- Technology in BikeFit: Apply pressure mapping (e.g. Gebiomized), 2D/3D video, and motion analysis to inform clinical decisions.
- Clinical Reasoning in Cycling: Practice interpretive and pattern-based reasoning models to connect symptoms with bike-body mismatches.
- Cyclist Rehabilitation: Integrate postural correction, movement retraining, and neuromuscular strategies (including gluteal patterning, core optimization, and eccentric calf sequencing) for common overuse injuries like anterior hip pain, patellofemoral pain, or low back discomfort.
Course Format
- Two full days of in-person instruction
- Access to your original Level 1 materials (video + workbook)
- Level 2 manual (PDF & hard copy)
- Small group teaching, hands-on workshops, case study masterclasses
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for physiotherapists, sports medicine professionals, and accredited bikefitters who have completed Physio Bikefit Level 1. It is particularly valuable for those working with competitive or recreational cyclists, triathletes, or active individuals with bike-related pain and performance issues.
Key Takeaways
- Apply biomechanics and clinical reasoning to the saddle, shoe, and handlebar interface
- Conduct full-body and bike assessments with real-time decision tools
- Navigate common injuries and prevent recurrence using evidence-based interventions
- Bridge the gap between rehabilitation and optimal cycling performance
Prerequisite
Completion of Physio Bikefit Level 1.
