The Language and Logic of Pain: Accredited Continuing Education Webinar for Physiotherapists
The language of pain is not just "semantics." In fact, it lies at the heart of pain science and clinical practice. Understanding how we talk about pain can significantly alter how we understand, manage, and treat it. In this accredited webinar, Asaf Weisman, Ph.D. candidate and Spinal Research Laboratory Manager at Tel-Aviv University, will unravel the complexities of pain language, offering fresh insights that will enrich your practice as a physiotherapist.
Why Language Matters in Pain Science
Words shape our perception, and in pain science, the language we use can blur the lines between nociception (the body's response to harmful stimuli) and the actual experience of pain. This distinction is crucial for healthcare professionals. Asaf will explain the difference between nociception and pain, exploring how pain is not just a physical sensation but a subjective perception that can be influenced by various factors, including how we describe it.
Key Topics Covered:
- Nociception vs Pain – Understanding the scientific difference
- Is Pain a Sensation or a Perception? – Philosophical and clinical implications
- What is an Experience? – How it relates to chronic pain
- The Mind and Pain – Exploring consciousness and its role in pain perception
- Your Brain Doesn't Make Decisions for You – Understanding the neural complexities
- The Future of Pain Relief – Why biology holds the key to breakthroughs
